It’s hard for me to believe that my all-time favorite work of art ever committed to film is now TWENTY years old!
“Lonesome Dove” is to me the epitome of storytelling — the book is one of my favorites, too — and the performances are uniformly brilliant. If you haven’t watched it, it is the definition of MUST SEE.
Robert Duvall as Gus is simply the most astounding acting that I have ever seen. I had an opportunity to interview him several years ago, and he told me that not only was it his favorite role, it was also a bit depressing to think that he will never deliver another performance, or be cast for another role, that will match it.
Yet, I didn’t realize that Augustus McCrae also made a statement about the importance of customer service all those many years ago. We need to keep it friendly and speedy — and create Ultimate Customer Experiences — or else a retired Texas Ranger might make us pay!

Scott, here’s a customer service story I know you will not believe.
Now I have heard everything. McDonalds is rationing french fries and chicken nuggets. True story. McDonalds here are only allotted a certain number of boxes of french fries and chicken nuggets per day. When they have used all their daily quota THEY NO LONGER SELL FRENCH FRIES. Even if the store is open…they have no Freaking Fries.
Meanwhile there ARE more boxes of fries in the restaurant…but those are tomorrows fries and can’t be used until tomorrow.
I am not making this up. McDonalds at the corner of Gilbert and Germann in Chandler AZ gave me the story…but not the fries. Tonight.
We now have the final note on when the economy gets better…when McD’s stops rationing fries. Good lord.
